Legendary South Indian actress Jayanthi who was popularly known as the Abhinaya Sharade –Goddess Sharada in acting – of sandalwood passed away on Monday morning. The actress was 76.
Kamala kumari known by her stage name Jayanthi, was an Indian actress known for her work mainly in Kannada cinema . She was noted for her contributions to different genres of films from the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s.
She has appeared in over 500 films, including Hindi, Marathi and all south Indian languages. She has received seven Karnataka state awards , four times as the Best actress and twice as Best Supporting Actress. The Presidents’ Medal for Best Actress and two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.
She has been cited as Kannada cinema’s ‘most bold and beautiful’ actress by various media outlets, a title for which she has received substantial publicity.
